Matthew Groening (Matt) (1954-) is an American cartoonist, writer, producer and animator. He is the creator of the comic strip , Life in Hell (1977-2012) and the television series The Simpsons (1989-present).The Simpsons is the longest running US prime time television series in history and the longest running US animated series and sitcom. He caught the attention of James L Brooks who in 1985 wanted him to adapt his Life in Hell characters for the Tracey Ullman show. Groening decided to create something new and came up with a cartoon family which he called, The Simpsons. He named the members of the family after his own parents and sisters whilst Bart was an anagram of the word Brat.The Simpsons has since aired 698 episodes. He has won 13 primetime Emmy Awards and many other awards. He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2012 .
