Irving Berlin( 1888 to 1989) Widely considered as the greatest songwriter in American history . His music forms part of the Great American songbook . Born in Russia he arrived in the USA at the age of His first huge success what's with Alexander's ragtime band in 1911. He composed an estimated 1500 songs including the scores for 20 Broadway shows and 15 Hollywood films. He was nominated for eight Academy Awards. His many hits include” White Christmas”, “ Putting on the Ritz”, “Easter Parade”,” There's no business like show business “and God Bless America.
